A Day of Investing and Saving

Another day, another free cup of coffee from Panera Bread, coffee makes my day. Before sitting down and working on posting daily deals for Saving For More, this is a must for me. How do you get your day going? (Comment below!)

Other things we are looking forward to saving on today:

  • $0.10 off code gas per gallon at Shell received from T-Mobile Free Tuesday offer (Shell offers additional saving with their fuel rewards program)
  • Snagging a free burrito by finding the secret word from the Chipotle commercial during the NBA Finals game 4.
  • Hoping one of the team can come back from a halftime deficit to win the game in the NBA Finals game 4 to get a free flaming Dorito taco from Taco Bell.
  • Tried to play the Dunkin Donut Free Popping Game but didn’t win anything (again)

My youngest kid ran out of diapers! So, we decided to save money and have her use pull-ups from my older kids’ “leftover” until we find the next deals for diapers. Diapers are rather expensive now a day without a deal!

Other things that I check daily besides great daily deals: the stock market since we have retirement (old 401k), mutual fund investment, and SMA (separately managed account). With the inflations kicking in big time this year, it’s more important now than ever to have our money work for us or we are losing 3% or more annually on our cash balance.

Of course it’s important to have cash for emergency situations like sudden job loss, medical emergency, injuries, repairs ETC, (most experts recommend at least 3 months, I shoot for 6-12 months minimum just to be safe), but not putting excessive cash at our disposal to work puts us in danger of losing money in the long term.

So far, I have been quite happy with our investments in the SMA accounts at Chase Bank and Fidelity Investments. If you are interested, feel free to check them out. I am considering selling the mutual funds at Chase Bank and re-investing those funds into the SMA at Chase to get a better return. If you are looking for something to start small, check out Diverse Fund Investment (affiliated link) which just needs $500 to start investing and no management fees.

We ended the day with a very small gain of $235.90 from our Fidelity Account.
